The latest news about Manchester United from the last 24 hours.

Manchester United could be locked in a battle with Manchester City in January to sign Chelsea full back Ashley Cole. Paris Saint-Germain had been linked with the England defender but have since ruled themselves out of the running. Sir Alex Ferguson is thought to be searching for an immediate replacement for current left back Patrice Evra.

If Nani is allowed to leave Manchester United then it could pave the way for the arrival of Tom Ince. Reports suggest that United are waiting to see how the future of Portuguese winger Nani unfolds up to January as any sale could be used to fund a move for Blackpool’s Ince. Ince’s father, Paul, previously enjoyed a spell at the club under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Federico Macheda has revealed that he wants to leave Manchester United when the transfer window reopens in January. Macheda is way down the pecking order at United behind the likes of Wayne Rooney, Robin Van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Danny Welbeck. There is reported interest in him from clubs in Italy, Spain and Germany.

Celtic are set to offer Victor Wanyama a new contract after speculation linking him with a £10 million move to Manchester United. Wanyama is reportedly on the radar of Sir Alex Ferguson who is hunting for a midfield enforcer to come in and provide protection to the more creative players in the team. He is a much cheaper alternative to many other top European stars.

Porto attacking midfielder James Rodriguez has dropped his biggest hint yet at interest from Manchester United after calling the Old Trafford side one of the great English clubs. Rodriguez has been linked with United for a number of weeks and has a 45 million Euro clause in his contract which means United could buy him if they wished to in January.

Sir Alex Ferguson is one of the managers who will suffer after England’s World Cup qualifier against Poland was rearranged. Manchester United have a number of players in the England squad who will be required for Premier League duty this weekend before a Champions League game next Tuesday. This means some United players will play three games inside a week.

One of Manchester United’s greatest ever strikers Eric Cantona has ruled himself out of becoming a future manager at the club. Cantona says he has no desire to follow Sir Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford and suggests that the Scottish boss will keep going for many years before he is eventually forced to retire from the role.

Manchester United legend Roy Keane has described Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart as lazy and prone to make errors. Keane was speaking before England’s planned World Cup qualifier against Poland last night. Keane has suggested that Hart is more likely to make mistakes when his complacency shines through, echoing the recent comments of former England great Gordon Banks.
