Manchester United want Ivan Toney and are ready to fight Leeds United, Newcastle United and West Ham United in the race for him.

United have today confirmed a deal for Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez as he moves to reunite with Erik ten Hag.

Christian Eriksen has arrived too and United will continue to push for the signing of Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

United will want other additions too though as they look to back Ten Hag with new faces, and a striker could yet be on the radar.

Manchester United want Ivan Toney

Cristiano Ronaldo’s future is unclear and it remains to be seen whether Ten Hag fancies Marcus Rashford or Anthony Martial as a striker.

The Mirror report that United are now looking towards Brentford hitman Ivan Toney.

It’s stated that Leeds United, Newcastle United and West Ham United are also in the mix for Toney’s signature.

Brentford are now expecting at least one offer to come in before the summer transfer window shuts with the Bees bracing themselves.

Toney, 26, impressed in his first real Premier League campaign last season, racking up 12 goals in 33 games for Brentford.

Toney had previously been with Newcastle but never really had a chance to shine with the Magpies.

Now a quality Premier League striker who can cause no end of problems with his physicality, aerial presence, speed, running in behind and link-up play, Toney looks the full package.

Newcastle seemingly want to bring Toney back as competition for Chris Wood and Callum Wilson, but that won’t be an easy deal.

It’s hard to see Leeds being able to win this battle whilst West Ham do seem keen to splash the cash on a striker after bids for Gianluca Scamacca and Armando Broja.

Manchester United are a totally different proposition though and Ten Hag may see some shades of his former Ajax striker Sebastien Haller in Toney.

Ten Hag used Haller as a focal point of the Ajax attacker, using his target man abilities to devastating effect – and United could now move for Toney in a similar role even if he isn’t quite as tall as Haller.
