A round-up of news and gossip relating to Manchester United over the past 24 hours.

Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez has told a club journal that his main priority for this season is to help the club win trophies rather than any personal success. The striker told the magazine that he is not ‘obsessed’ with scoring goals and places team success over any personal achievements.

The player also spoke of the emotional hurt of losing the Premier League title in the last minute of last season: “For so many years that type of game was a fable of Manchester United, with goals in the last minute [to win big games], and sometimes it is part of life to experience the bad moments like this one.”

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has warned rivals that Javier Hernandez will return to the form of his debut season after a prolonged summer break.

United scouts, along with Arsenal, will be watching Celtic’s Champions League qualifier with Helsinki tonight. The Manchester club will be assessing 21-year-old Victor Wanyama playing in a preferred midfield role as they scout him for the third match in a row. The player is valued at £7m and could provide cover for midfield and defensive positions.

Winger Antonio Valencia has spoken of his pride after being designated the heralded No.7 shirt. The shirt has previously been worn by George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo and Valencia will be looking to emulate these United legends. The former Wigan player expressed his excitement for the new season in United’s pursuit of silverware after a trophyless season last term.

QPR boss Mark Hughes did not let up information regarding speculation around the club’s bid for Dimitar Berbatov. QPR were reported to have bid £5m for the United striker but Hughes was enigmatic when broached with the subject: “At this time of year, there are a lot of names flying around. But we prefer to get the job done, get the business done, and then we announce it.”
