Manchester United are on the hunt for central defenders this summer and they have just received a boost to their chances of landing Leny Yoro.

Manchester United‘s FA Cup success patched over what was a truly underwhelming Premier League campaign for the Red Devils.

Erik ten Hag‘s side looked fragile and vulnerable at the back and it became very clear that addressing their leaky defence was a top priority this summer.

On top of that, Raphael Varane‘s exit this summer means that defensive reinforcements are desperately needed this summer. United have responded by showing interest in multiple defenders.

One name on the club’s shortlist is Leny Yoro and HITC understands that United have agreed a fee of around £42million with Lille for the 18-year-old starlet.

However, United are facing fierce competition from Real Madrid and HITC understands that the La Liga giants are leading the race to sign the defender.

Manchester United could beat Real Madrid to Leny Yoro

Facing off against Real Madrid in a transfer race often ends up with only one result – the player in question taking the next flight to Spain.

The La Liga giants have a history of piecing together the best players in the world and they usually get their hands on whoever they want.

However, a report from Portuguese outlet O Jogo suggests that Real Madrid have identified an alternative to Yoro with the French defender “close to Manchester United”.

The report states that Madrid have shown an interest in Lazio’s Mario Gila and will push to sign the 23-year-old if they miss out on Yoro.

Of course, United also have a number of other targets on their shortlist. Mattias De Ligt is set to join imminently after agreeing a five-year contract, while an offer remains on the table for Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite.

It seems that United are keen to bring in multiple defenders this summer and beating Madrid to Yoro would be a strong statement of intent.
