Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose is reportedly keen on a move to Manchester United.
According to a report from the Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur left back Danny Rose is interested in joining Manchester United in January – but whether they can secure a deal is another matter.
It’s claimed that United are confident of sealing a £45million deal for Rose in January, as manager Jose Mourinho desperately attempts to bring in a new left back.
United’s hopes of landing Rose were given something of a boost in August, when the England international told The Sun that he was interested in a move back up north, having left Leeds United for Tottenham back in 2007.
Having used Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young at left back already this season, Rose signing for United would be a huge boost to Mourinho – but would Daniel Levy really sell?
Back in May, the Manchester Evening News reported that United did want to sign Tottenham’s Eric Dier, but ultimately backed away from a deal as they found the prospect of talks with Spurs chairman Levy ‘problematic’.
Levy’s reputation as a tough negotiator and shrewd businessman is well-earned, and United have found his negotiating stance difficult on a number of occasions, from the deal which took Dimitar Berbatov to Old Trafford, to option not to pursue Luka Modric simply so they didn’t have to deal with Levy again.
Now though, if United do want to sign Rose, then they will have to negotiate with Levy, and their hand will be weakened by their need of a left back, a potential title battle between the two clubs and doing a deal in the middle of the season.
Having sold Kyle Walker to Manchester City for £50million, Levy may well use that fee as a basis for the price for Rose, and the likelihood is that Levy will act no differently over Rose than he did with Dier just five months ago.
