Manchester United have formally announced the arrivals of two Sunderland teenagers.
Both Logan Pye, a left-back, and Joe Hugill, a striker, had been strongly linked with moves to United since the start of the year.
And the Premier League giants finally confirmed their moves in a statement on their official website earlier today (Friday).
There is no mention of any fee being paid to Sunderland, whose academy system the two 16-year-olds had progressed through.
Pye and Hugill are the latest young talents to swap Sunderland for higher division clubs of, after Sam Greenwood (Arsenal), Morten Spencer (Leeds United) and several others.
And Bali Mumba could yet follow them out of the Academy of Light, with a move to Norwich City strongly mooted.
Hugill, who has played for Sunderland’s Under-23s this season, was also said to be interesting Manchester United’s rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
But a move to Old Trafford makes sense for both he and Pye, given the Red Devils’ continued focus on youth.
Academy graduates Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe are among those to have established themselves as first-team players at United this season.
