Manchester United lost 2-1 to Manchester City on Sunday afternoon.
Manchester United headed into their huge clash against Manchester City knowing they could not afford to lose, with the gap between the two sides stretching to 11 points as a consequence.
Unfortunately for Jose Mourinho’s side, that is exactly what happened, and United will now be praying for a huge capitulation on the part of the Blues if the title race is going to be alive in the final few months of the campaign.
United set out with more attacking players than they have for most matches this season, yet they sat back and played on the counter, allowing City to have the vast majority of the ball and dictate the play; something the Old Trafford faithful are not used to seeing on their own patch.
At the back, Marcos Rojo played alongside Chris Smalling at the back, before going off at half-time to be replaced by summer signing Victor Lindelof.
Rojo has only recently returned from a injury and he has impressed for the most part, but he was unable to help United to a much needed clean sheet and the club’s focus will now surely switch to the cup competitions.
