Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips has been linked with Manchester United.

Manchester United must invest in their midfield in 2020, and it seems that they are looking to raid bitter rivals Leeds United to do it.

The Red Devils have seen Scott McTominay fare well this season, but Paul Pogba’s future is unclear, Nemanja Matic is in decline whilst Fred and Andreas Pereira are a mixed bag.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has focused on the British market so far having landed Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James over the summer, and United could go the same way with their midfield plans.

The Sun reported over the weekend that United are interested in Leeds star Kalvin Phillips, who has been one of the top performers in the Championship for more than a year now.

Phillips, 23, has really kicked on under Marcelo Bielsa, and it’s no great surprise that United are keen, with Mike Phelan and Kieran McKenna charged with the task of watching him.

Having only signed a new contract with Leeds last month, United allegedly think Phillips will be expensive, and it ultimately seems unlikely that a player who loves Leeds as much as Phillips does would leave for the Red Devils – even after Alan Smith’s move.

Still, United fans have been reacting to the rumours, suggesting on Twitter that Phillips would be a real coup if he’s really ‘the Yorkshire Pirlo’, adding that he is ‘class’ and would be a dream signing alongside James Maddison.

Others aren’t convinced, suggesting it’s a joke to be linked with Phillips as he is ‘average’ and ‘not good enough’, even urging the club to stick with youngsters James Garner and Dylan Levitt instead.
