Can Manchester United youngster play a role next season?

Despite the faith in youth shown by former manager Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, his refusal to play Andreas Pereira was one decision fans could never figure out.

Pereira was an outstanding performer on a regular basis for the under-23s, and when he was given a chance against Ipswich Town in the League Cup, he scored a free-kick.

The Brazilian youth international scored in pre-season under Jose Mourinho against Wigan, but the manager decided to send him out on loan, which was at least better than risking him stagnate in the academy.

Pereira agreed to switch to Spanish side Granada, who once again are battling for survival in La Liga.

In a team low on quality Pereira has found it tough, but continues to show glimpses of real promise.

He was in the side at the weekend which took on Real Madrid, and they were hammered 5-0 by Zinedine Zidane’s in form side.

Despite his side being dominated, Pereira was a class act. He touched the ball 58 times, and completed 87 per cent of his passes.

He dribbled the ball past an opponent five times, more than the rest of the Granada starting line-up managed combined.

The 21-year-old was not involved enough defensively, failing to win a tackle or make an interception, but he was not the only Granada player guilty of this.

Watching United fans saw enough signs of promise to suggest the youngster could be a hit at Old Trafford next season if given a fair opportunity…
