Cameron Borthwick-Jackson’s spell at Leeds United has been cut short, his second unsuccessful Championship loan in two seasons.
Borthwick-Jackson rose to prominence during the 2015/16 Premier League season under Louis van Gaal, starting in high profile games at full-back, but Jose Mourinho did not have the same faith in the youngster.
Borthwick-Jackson has done nothing to prove Mourinho wrong, first during a poor loan spell with Wolves, and now with this season’s stint at Leeds United.
The defender made only six appearances for the Whites, his most recent coming in an embarrassing FA Cup defeat to Newport County, in which he was substituted off.
The left-back’s star is rapidly fading and his chances of making it at Manchester United are further away than ever before.
Another loan spell elsewhere could get him back on track, and it is clear the defender needs confidence as well as regular playing time.
The 20-year-old’s loan spell being cut short is in the best interests of all parties, and there is a chance for the youngster to stop his season from becoming a write off if he can enjoy a more successful stint elsewhere.
