Manchester United fans have taken to Twitter to heap praise upon Ander Herrera after the midfielder shone during the club’s goalless draw with Liverpool on Monday night.
While it was predominantly a disappointing game of few chances between the two heavyweights at Anfield, Herrera, along with United teammate David de Gea, took many of the plaudits for his display.
David De Gea also shone in the draw
With Wayne Rooney left out of the team by Jose Mourinho, the Spaniard needed to demonstrate plenty of leadership to help keep a potentially lethal Reds attack at bay.
But he produced a performance of the highest quality to help ensure that one of Liverpool’s best chances had to come from a long-range effort from Philippe Coutinho, which, to be fair, required a stunning save from de Gea as it looked destined for the top corner.

And after watching his brilliant display against Liverpool, some United fans have taken to social media to suggest that Herrera has now put himself in contention to succeed Rooney as the club’s next captain.
Here is the best of the reaction following the midfielder’s excellent display during the stalemate.
