Manchester United are pushing to bring in Bryan Mbeumo as their second major signing of the summer, following the arrival of Matheus Cunha.

The 26-year-old has become a key target for the Red Devils, who have ramped up their efforts in the past week.

Ineos, overseeing United’s recruitment, have been working on the deal after an initial bid of £45 million plus £10 million in add-ons was turned down by Brentford.

That bid was seen as a strong opening offer for Mbeumo, and an improved proposal is expected soon.

A deal is expected to be completed this month, but Ineos can’t afford to wait too long, especially with interest growing from elsewhere.

Tottenham are reportedly considering a move for Mbeumo as they look to appoint Thomas Frank following Ange Postecoglou’s dismissal.

Latest on Manchester United’s pursuit of Bryan Mbeumo

Mbeumo’s pace and movement make him a standout option for United, especially given the profile that manager Ruben Amorim is looking for in attack.

There’s been little public movement, but United in Focus spoke to transfer expert Graeme Bailey, who believes United still remain the frontrunners despite growing outside interest.

“It’s ongoing, obviously Brentford have their valuation and I think it won’t be south of the Cunha fee, potentially even more, and obviously the two clubs aren’t there yet. We know Mbeumo briefed that he wants to join United, and they remain firm favourites. However, United will be wary of the Tottenham factor.

“With Thomas Frank arriving at Tottenham, do they suddenly become an active option for him? I believe he will know over the next week or so if that is the case, but it is impossible to dismiss Tottenham at this point. Until Mbeumo is standing at Old Trafford with a scarf, anything can happen.

“United are the strong firm favourites, but there is something there with Tottenham, they are lying in wait, considering entering the race, and definitely one to keep an eye on. Mbeumo will have to move his family from London, which he wouldn’t have to if he joined Tottenham. It’s up to United to go and get it done now, he’s done his part and given them all the confidence that he wants the move.”

“We’ll know very soon.”

It’s believed that the gap between United’s first offer and Brentford’s asking price isn’t substantial, likely around £10 million, meaning a breakthrough could come quickly if both sides remain engaged.

Manchester United must complete Bryan Mbeumo deal or walk away

With Matheus Cunha now confirmed as a United player, the focus has fully shifted to wrapping up the Mbeumo deal.

While the Cunha deal was straightforward due to a release clause, negotiations for Mbeumo are beginning to drag — and Ineos know they still have a busy summer ahead in terms of both incomings and outgoings.

This weekend could be decisive. If progress isn’t made soon, Jason Wilcox and Christopher Vivell may be forced to reconsider whether to persist or move on to other targets.

For now, fans will hope to see Mbeumo holding up the United shirt in the coming weeks — but time is starting to become a factor.
