According to the Independent, Manchester United have made signing Serbian midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic their top priority.

The Independent has reported that Real Madrid and Juventus are also after the 23-year-old, who had a fantastic season with Lazio last year, scoring 14 goals and getting 9 assists.

The 1.91m tall midfielder has turned heads since he joined Lazio from Genk for £18 million in 2015, and the Express has reported that Lazio have put a €80 million (£70.4m) price tag on him.

Milinkovic-Savic has great physical prowess and is dominant in the air, attributes that will endear him to Jose Mourinho, however, it is his quick feet and tactical intelligence that are most impressive.

Similar to Paul Pogba the Serbian international performs best in a 4-3-3 when given license to get forward, but he can also function in the number 10 role.

Many people felt the 2018 World Cup could be the tournament at which Milinkovic-Savic truly announced himself on the world stage.

Following an impressive performance in Serbia’s opening group game, a 1-0 victory against Costa Rica, Milinkovic-Savic struggled in the following two group games, losses to Switzerland and Brazil, and his side failed to qualify for the last 16.

For many United fans, the World Cup was their first proper look at their prospective signing and it seems as though they have been left a little disappointed.
