Bruno Fernandes has given his backing to one of Manchester United’s midfield targets, with the club expected to reshape the area in 2026.
With Ruben Amorim looking to rebuild a midfield that’s already facing questions, United have started drawing up their list of potential signings well before the summer window opens.
Plenty of names are being thrown around, but it’s still unclear who will become the main focus. With several players possibly leaving, United might need more than one addition to fill out the group.
Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba are among the bigger names being mentioned. But beyond those two, there’s another midfielder on the radar who already has Bruno Fernandes’ stamp of approval.
Manchester United are interested in Ruben Neves
Beyond their primary targets, Manchester United are also exploring more affordable options who could still bring quality to their midfield.
One name under consideration is Ruben Neves, the former Wolves midfielder now playing for Al-Hilal. According to United in Focus, the Portuguese international has caught the attention of Ineos.

“Ruben Neves remains of interest to Manchester United, they know his situation that he could be available in 2026, that is not certain yet as Al-Hilal try to tie him down to a long-term deal”, Graeme Bailey explains exclusively to United in Focus.
“But as it stands, Neves is still considering his options.” This sounds like it might be a deal United are not going to prioritise unless the midfielder makes it clear he wants a move. However, compared with other targets, Neves is probably more of a ‘Plan B’.
Neves’ contract in Saudi Arabia expires in June, and so it could be a cost-effective solution for the Red Devils.
Bruno Fernandes would be thrilled to see Ruben Neves
Bruno Fernandes carries plenty of influence at Old Trafford, and if he has any say in recruitment, Neves could become a genuine option.
Back in 2021, when Neves was first linked with United, The Express reported how Fernandes felt about his compatriot joining him at Old Trafford.
“Bruno Fernandes is obviously very keen for Neves to join and the club are aware of that.” If Fernandes remains part of the squad next season, any new midfielder will need to fit well alongside him. And based on his track record, there’s little doubt Neves could do just that.
Neves also brings proven Premier League experience, making him a name to keep an eye on as January approaches.
