Manchester United want Malcolm Ebiowei and they may now lead Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for his signature.

United face a huge summer as they look to retool their squad for the arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag.

Big signings will be expected but it won’t all be about securing first-team players as United look towards a long-term rebuild.

United will also look for hot young prospects to develop into stars over the coming years, just like Anthony Elanga.

Manchester United want Malcolm Ebiowei

One of the player who fits that bill perfectly is Derby County teenager Ebiowei.

Formerly of Arsenal, Ebiowei moved on to Rangers in 2020 but wasn’t able to break through at Ibrox.

Derby swooped in and signed Ebiowei last year and he hasn’t looked back since.

Ebiowei has bagged one goal and two assists in 16 games for Derby but has shown a real ability to drive at defenders and go past them with ease.

The 18-year-old looks to be a huge talent and it’s no surprise that other clubs are now interested.

The Sun now claim that Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are both interested in signing Eboiwei this summer.

Yet it’s now suggested that United are leading the race because of Wayne Rooney’s links between the two clubs.

Rooney is a United legend and he may well be able to convince Eboiwei to pick the Red Devils over any other club this summer.

United seemingly hope that is the case, and will give Ebiowei the chance to follow in Rooney’s footsteps at Old Trafford.

Having struggled to break through with Arsenal and Rangers, Ebiowei will want a first-team pathway – and that may just give other clubs hope of beating United to his signature.
