Manchester United are reportedly weighing up whether to sign France international Marcus Thuram in January, with the Borussia Monchengladbach star being heavily linked with Newcastle United in recent weeks.
According to Sport Bild, Erik Ten Hag is keen to sign a striker in the coming weeks following the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo and injury problems to the likes of Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford, with Thuram emerging as a potential bargain option for United.
Thuram’s contract is due to expire at the end of the summer, and as per the report, Gladbach are open to selling the 25-year-old in January for as little as €10m (£8.6m), a transfer fee that would suit the likes of United, who face competition from Newcastle the 2022 FIFA World Cup finalist.
As per the Athletic, Eddie Howe’s side have already held talks with Thuram about a potential transfer, with Newcastle flying high in the Premier League and likely to use their financial muscle to bring the Bundesliga superstar to St. James Park in the January window.

With 13 goals in all competitions this season, Thuram has been one of the best attackers in Europe at club level this campaign, and Newcastle beating the likes of United to the forward’s signature would be quite the coup for the northeast Premier League side.
Indeed, Thuram’s future will be one of the most interesting transfer sagas to watch next month, and United’s renewed interest in the attacker could be of concern for Newcastle, who might miss out on signing the France attacker due to their Manchester rivals.
Manchester United signing Thuram will be a massive blow for Newcastle

Thuram’s performances at the World Cup from the bench were key in guiding France to the final, and with United now firmly in the race for the attacker, Newcastle face the real threat of missing out on the forward entirely in January.
After all, United’s need for a new leading striker is clear for everyone to see, and whilst Newcastle are realistically a more appealing option in this current moment in time, Ten Hag could make a strong push to bring Thuram to Old Trafford next month, which could change everything.
