Manchester United are closing in on a deal for Bryan Mbeumo and have received a £42m boost that could help them get it over the line.
United’s pursuit of the Brentford forward has stretched across several weeks, and despite two official bids, they’re still yet to meet the club’s asking price.
The most recent bid was worth £62.5 million without add-ons, but Brentford then shifted the goalposts by signalling that Mbeumo was worth more than Matheus Cunha, who recently moved from Wolves to Old Trafford for £62.5 million.

Man United land PSR boost that will help them get Mbeumo’s deal over the line
Not only does July 1 represent the first official date of the summer transfer window, but it also marks another key date in the Premier League’s calendar.
As of today, clubs have now started a new Profit and Sustainability (PSR) period with every transaction recorded over the next year set to be assessed across a three-year rolling period.
For Manchester United, this is set to have a significant impact as they will no longer have to account for their £42.1m losses in the 2022/23 campaign.

Bryan Mbeumo deal should soon be ready for pre-season
Cunha was signed on the first day of the window, and now confidence is growing that Mbeumo can be finalised before pre-season training begins on July 7.
It will give Mbeumo plenty of time to settle in Manchester before joining the squad for a pre-season friendly against Leeds United in Sweden and the tour of the United States.
But Ineos will still be busy over the summer with Amorim wanting four more signings after Mbeumo. There is also the task of trimming the squad, with several players currently up for sale.
Now that every club has entered a new PSR period, hopefully buying and selling will prove to be an easier task.
