But when a huge news story like Sir Alex Ferguson retiring hits the agenda, those unfamiliar with football struggle to catch up.
That’s been highlighted by Twitter users today, who have taken a while to cotton onto the fact that ‘Fergie’ is Sir Alex Ferguson, not the female vocalist in band The Black Eyed Peas.
While a number of Tweeters were busy making relatively unfunny jokes about the two Fergie’s, there were also others who were genuinely mixed up.
We thought it only right to point out their confusion…
