Manchester United are reportedly now keeping a close eye on Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, who Liverpool are also believed to be interested in signing.
90min claim that the Argentina international is now being watched closely by the Red Devils, with Premier League clubs lining up to sign Fernandez despite only joining Benfica in the summer from River Plate, with Liverpool one of the sides chasing the 21-year-old sensation.
Hailed as a ‘genius’ by former Primeira Liga coach Jose Peseiro, Fernandez has taken Portugal by storm this season as Benfica remain unbeaten in all competitions and have already booked their place into the round-of-16 in the UEFA Champions League, eliminating Juventus in the process.
With a reported price tag of £44m according to Sport, it won’t be long until Benfica up their asking price for the Liverpool and now United transfer target, with interest in Fernandez expected to be high ahead of the January transfer window.

Chelsea and Wolves are also reportedly interested in Fernandez according to Sport, yet interest from Liverpool has mainly taken the headlines, with Jurgen Klopp’s side eager to strengthen their midfield ranks in January as the Reds currently sit eight points off the top-four.
However, United’s interest in the Benfica star could now cause quite a problem for Liverpool, with Erik Ten Hag seemingly steering the Manchester giants back on course in the Premier League. And with the Anfield side struggling, the Benfica star could be tempted by a move to Old Trafford instead.
Manchester United signing Enzo Fernandez will sting for Liverpool

Midfield is a key position for both Liverpool and United heading into the January window. And for Fernandez, there’s a good case to be made that the Red Devils could be the more appealing club to join despite how much success Klopp’s side have had in recent years.
After all, Ten Hag is finally starting to bring back some normality back to United after years of being one of the most dysfunctional clubs in all of England. And for Fernandez, signing for the Manchester side in their current state could be a better option than Liverpool, who have seemingly lost their tag as one of the most dominate clubs in Europe.
