Juventus have reportedly made a bid for Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United should see it as an opportunity to bring the forward back to Old Trafford.

According to the Independent, Juventus have made an £88 million bid for Ronaldo, whose wage demands are believed to be £500,000 per-week.

United will likely have been alerted by the opportunity to re-sign Ronaldo but found themselves in a similar situation four years ago when they believed he was interested in returning to the club, but the striker was merely using their interest as leverage in contract talks with Madrid.

The Red Devils will clearly be worried about making the same mistake twice and looking foolish, however, they can’t risk missing out on the opportunity to sign one of the world’s best players.

During the World Cup, the 33-year-old became the highest scoring European in international football history, topping off a fantastic season which saw him score 44 goals for Madrid and win a fifth Champions League.

There may be concerns that Ronaldo’s arrival could hamper the development of some United players and unsettle the squad, but it could also have the opposite effect and give them the boost they need to compete with rivals Manchester City.

If £88 million was the amount needed to bring one of United’s greatest modern players back to Manchester, then it seems an opportunity that is too good to miss.
