After two error-filled seasons in the Premier League, Andre Onana’s Manchester United future is far from certain.
There is growing talk of a new goalkeeper arriving at Carrington this summer, with Andre Onana either set to face fresh competition – or potentially lose his place entirely.
With Altay Bayindir also linked with a move away in search of regular playing time, doubts are mounting over whether Onana remains the right choice as United’s number one.
Manchester United haven’t made their intentions clear yet on whether Onana will be made available for transfer. That decision may hinge on whether a suitable offer arrives for him this summer. The Red Devils would certainly try to recoup a large part of the £47m they spent on the Cameroonian.
It’s been reported that United are leaning toward keeping Onana, something that may surprise some fans. But Edwin van der Sar is one notable supporter – he’s publicly backed the goalkeeper to come good.
Onana is also aware of links to Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, although the £40m price tag for the 32-year-old may deter a move.
AS Monaco eye move for Andre Onana

AS Monaco are reportedly in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer. L’Equipe claim that Onana is one of several names under consideration, as the club looks to strengthen ahead of the new season.
Monaco are reportedly unconvinced by either Radoslaw Majecki or Philipp Kohn, and finding a new number one is said to be a priority. Other names mentioned include Chelsea’s Djordje Petrovic and Barcelona’s Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Before Onana, the French club had also considered David de Gea – but the Spaniard recently signed new terms with Fiorentina, ending any hopes of a move.

Goalkeepers linked with moves to Man Utd
In Spain, United have been linked with Espanyol’s Joan Garcia, who enjoyed an impressive 2024/25 season, but he has already joined Barcelona.
Torino’s Vanja Milinkovic-Savic is another option after standing out in Serie A, though Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez – despite the price tag – remains the biggest name linked to the role and could be the one to fill the void if Onana’s move to Monaco progresses.
There’s also been speculation about reigniting interest in Parma’s Zion Suzuki, regarded as one of the brightest young prospects in Europe.
Wherever Erik ten Hag decides to look, the goalkeeper position is already shaping up to be a major storyline of United’s summer.
