Manchester United had a bid turned down for Sami Khedira turned down last summer. They may fare better this time around.

Manchester United may have success if they bid for Sami Khedira this summer.

It was revealed after transfer deadline day last year that the Red Devils had submitted a €40 million bid for the German international.

ESPN reported Khedira saying at the time: “The club turned down the offer and that was it, we didn’t really have the chance to discuss it. I had a longer chat with Carlo Ancelotti a few weeks ago and it was relatively clear to me that I’d stay at Real.”

Now the situation may be very different.

Spanish paper El Confidencial report this week: “Manchester United team that last summer put 35 million euros to achieve his signing. Real Madrid rejected the proposal, but now the picture is quite different.”

Real have ambitions to sign new players this summer, with Marco Verratti and Toni Kroos on the agenda.

There is a feeling Khedira is expendable, a knee injury meant he did not feature in the second half of their season, as they won the Champions League without his help.

Now he is fully recovered, and featured for Germany in their 4-0 win over Portugal.

United are interested currently in his international teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, but he couldn’t get a kick in the opening game, left on the bench throughout with Khedira preferreed.

Khedira is showing no ill effects from his knee injury and that may prompt United to re-ignite their interest in his signature.

If they do, this time around they may just be more successful.
