Manchester United ace Anthony Martial could not contain his excitement at seeing former club Monaco beat Manchester City in the Champions League.

Monaco overturned a first leg deficit to beat City 3-1 at home, progressing to the quarter finals on away goals.

Tiemoue Bakayoko scored the vital header to send Monaco through, and Martial was delighted for his former teammate.

Central midfielder Bakayoko has been linked with joining up with Martial at Old Trafford, with The Mirror reporting in January that Manchester United are interested.

Manchester City’s exit from the last 16 of the Champions League was Pep Guardiola’s worst performance in the competition as manager and shows the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss has serious work to do.

United meanwhile are hoping to progress to the next round of the Europa League, and host Russian side FC Rostov on Thursday, having drawn the first leg 1-1.
