Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera has told The Mirror that he thinks Saturday’s opponents Tottenham Hotspur are genuine contenders to win the Champions League this season.
The Red Devils lost their first Premier League game this season on Saturday afternoon, as they fell to a shock 2-1 defeat away at Huddersfield Town.
It’s now just one point from from two games since the international break, and with injuries mounting, United’s game with Tottenham Hotspur this weekend has become all the more important.

Spurs have won twice since the international break, beating Bournemouth 1-0 and Liverpool 4-1 at Wembley Stadium, whilst they even picked up a 1-1 Champions League draw at Real Madrid last week.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men have been in fine form of late, and have even moved level on points with United in second place, as the two sides attempt to chase down league leaders Manchester City.
With nothing splitting the two sides heading in Saturday’s game, United will be looking for a win at Old Trafford, and midfielder Ander Herrera has commented on Spurs ahead of the game.
Herrera has told The Mirror that he thinks Saturday’s game is ‘massive’, and United must win as it comes against a direct rival for the title, urging fans to get behind the Red Devils after a couple of disappointing league displays.

Herrera added praise for Tottenham, claiming they are legitimate contenders for the Champions League, whilst praising players such as Christian Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane, highlighting just how dangerous Spurs are.
“We have a massive game at home against Tottenham, so it’s good to face that game with good feelings,” said Herrera. “Of course it will be a big statement to beat them — we have to win against them because they are a direct rival for the title and also because we play at home. I have to tell our fans that we really need them on Saturday.”
“Tottenham are a real rival. For the last two or three seasons they have improved a lot. They are contenders for everything — even for the Champions League. We saw last week the game they played against Real Madrid and they were not worse than them. That means they are ready for everything. Then they took Liverpool apart at the weekend. They are very well organised, they play good football and they have players who can score – Eriksen, Dele Alli, Son, Harry Kane. Even the full-backs are very offensive. It’s going to be very difficult but we play at home with our fans behind us and we have to try to win,” he added.
