The Manchester City striker would be an outstanding signing for Southampton.
Saints boss Mauricio Pellegrino will be desperate to bolster his options at St Mary’s over the course of the next month, as he looks to guide his side to a successful Premier League campaign this season.
One particular area where the Argentine undoubtedly needs to strengthen further still is his attacking department, with their tally of just 41 goals scored in league competition last season highlighting just how impotent they were in the final third.
With this in mind, the addition of an established striker to help supplement the talents of Manolo Gabbiadini will surely feature highly on Pellegrino’s agenda, and they should seriously consider entering the race to sign Wilfried Bony.
Wilfried Bony of Manchester City
The Manchester City ace is available for around £13 million, according to the Mirror, and Swansea City are believed to be leading the race to sign the Ivorian.
Southampton could be a far more attractive prospect for the 28-year-old hitman, however, and he could revive his career by moving to the south coast.
Bony possesses all of the attributes and characteristics that the Saints need in forward areas. He is powerfully built, strong in the air and possesses the wonderful gift of being able to find space in the tightest of areas.
He is no slouch in front of goal either, and given the opportunity of regular first-team football, he would surely return to somewhere near his best form.
The City frontman’s presence at St Mary’s would provide Pellegrino with the opportunity to play with two forwards through the middle. He is also apt at playing the lone striker role, and would act as a fantastic focal point for Southampton, should the Argentine opt to utilise the 4-3-2-1 system.
And the Saints should not hesitate to sign Bony this summer.
