Manchester City winger Harrison was a teammate of the incoming Derby County manager in New York.

England's former player Frank Lampard takes his seat for The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony, on October 23, 2017 in London.

Chelsea icon Frank Lampard is expected to be named the new manager of Derby County this week.

The role would be Lampard’s first in coaching, while he remains without the UEFA Pro Licence qualification required if he wants to manage in the Premier League.

For all his inexperience, however, the 39-year-old former England midfielder does at least have the profile and contacts which could benefit a side facing financial difficulty after their latest promotion failure.

Derby chairman Mel Morris looks on before the Sky Bet Championship match between Cardiff City and Derby County at Cardiff City Stadium on September 27, 2016 in Cardiff, Wales.

Another summer of sales is anticipated at Pride Park, and those departing could find themselves replaced by cheaper and more short-term recruits, identified through Lampard’s black book.

It is not only at Chelsea, however, where the prospective Derby manager made his mark as a player. And the Citys of Manchester and New York may also field phone calls in the coming weeks and months.

One player who could feature on Lampard’s radar is Jack Harrison, the England Under-21 winger who played alongside Lampard in the Big Apple and signed for Manchester City for around £3.5 million in January.

An immediate loan to Middlesbrough followed for Harrison, although he only played 49 minutes for Derby’s one-time play-off rivals, and a more productive spell away from the Etihad may be high on the agenda of both club and player ahead of the new campaign.

Having seen Kasey Palmer return to Chelsea, of all clubs, this summer, Derby could be in the market for a new wide player.

And few in England know Harrison as well as Lampard does, which should stand the Rams in good stead if they wish to pursue a deal.
