Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan has raved about Celtic’s support.
Manchester City’s Ilkay Gundogan
Manchester City ace Ilkay Gundogan has taken to Twitter to claim that Celtic’s fans are the best he has witnessed during his time as a player.
Gundogan, 26, joined City from Borussia Dortmund last summer, and looked to be on his way towards a huge first season in England having hit five goals and one assist in his first 17 games for City.
However, disaster struck for Gundogan in December as he suffered a serious knee injury against Watford, ruling him out for the rest of the season.
Now, as he attempts to work his way back to fitness, Gundogan has taken time to answer questions from fans on Twitter, covering a range of topics from how he has settled in at the Etihad Stadium and whether he prefers Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo.
Gundogan was also asked about the best atmosphere he has ever played in, and remarkably, it wasn’t in front of Borussia Dortmund’s famous Yellow Wall at Signal Iduna Park.
Instead, Gundogan picked out a game that he played in earlier this season, having sampled the atmosphere generated by Celtic fans during Manchester City’s 3-3 draw at Celtic Park earlier this season.

The midfielder stated that their Champions League meeting was the best atmosphere he has ever played in, even admitting that he still gets goosebumps thinking about the Bhoys fans, even five months on from the game.
Gundogan is far from the first player to praise the Celtic support, and he certainly won’t be the last, as European nights at Celtic Park have become famous over the years – and with Brendan Rodgers at the helm, there should be plenty more to come.
