Manchester City’s Fabian Delph left Leeds United in 2009.
Delph started his professional club football career at Leeds and was on the books of the Whites from 2001 until 2009 before leaving for Aston Villa.
The 28-year-old midfielder, who operated as a left-back on occasions this past season, had a loan spell at Elland Road from Villa in 2012.
The England international moved to City from the Villans in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £8 million.
Delph was back at Elland Road on Thursday evening, as he featured for England in their friendly international against Costa Rica.
The former Villa midfielder has stated his wish to return to Leeds in the future.
“I still follow (Leeds’s) results and I still keep in touch with people I grew up with,” Delph told The Yorkshire Evening Post.
“Lucy Ward (Leeds’s former education and welfare officer) was fantastic for me, she helped shape my future.
“There were a lot of people and I’d be here all night if I gave them all a mention but I owe a lot to Leeds United. I always be grateful and thankful and hopefully get back here one day.”
Future return?
Delph, who earns £80,000 per week as salary at City according to The Daily Star, is not going to return to Leeds anytime soon.
The England international is enjoying himself at City and is winning trophies, and he may not leave the Etihad Stadium for a few more years.
Perhaps when he is in his 30s or after three or four more years, Delph could become an option for Leeds.
