Should Celtic renew interest in Bersant Celina this summer?

Back in January 2016 Celtic clinched a deal for Patrick Roberts on loan, a deal which ensured he would stay at the club for 18 months.

Roberts has progressed well at Celtic, playing a part in two title wins, and his next step is to try and make an impression at Manchester City in the summer and beyond.

Another player in a similar position is Celtic’s original Plan B to Roberts, talented winger Bersant Celina.

The Daily Record reported at the time that Celtic were eyeing a move for the prospect, but ended up signing Roberts instead.

Celina has spent this season on loan in Holland at FC Twente, where he has benefitted from playing regularly.

The 20-year-old has made 21 starts in total, scoring five goals and providing three assists. Not bad at all in his first full season.

Taking the next step at City will be tough for the Kosovo international, and a loan move to Celtic might be in the best interests of all parties.

Celtic would find a natural replacement for Roberts, while Celina would get another year of progression under his belt, as well as an opportunity to play Champions League football.

Manchester City can’t offer both Celina and Roberts a first team place, indeed its questionable whether they can even accommodate one.
