Reports say City are prepared to pay £50m to sign Rose from Spurs, but would he actually fit in at the Etihad?
Tottenham’s Danny Rose in action
According to the Mirror, Manchester City are plotting a £50m summer move for Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose – but would he fit in the Pep Guardiola style of play?
Guardiola has plenty of issues in his squad to address, lot least at the back where none of his current options have really stepped up since he became manager at the start of the season.
At left-back Gael Clichy looks wanting in a system that requires high intensity and full-backs who are comfortable on the ball and often operate as auxiliary midfielders. Meanwhile, Aleksandar Kolarov is now preferred as a central defender.
So could Rose be the answer? Looking at Guardiola’s time at Barcelona and Bayern Munich would suggest that the England international’s eagerness to get forward would be a huge benefit.

At Barca, Dani Alves was the standout full-back, given the freedom to maraud the right flank at will. It was a similar story for David Alaba on the left at Bayern, stepping up to leave a two-man defence for much of the game.
This would be something new for Rose, but his use as a wing-back at Spurs this term is a good training ground, while his seeming endless supply of stamina suggests the 26-year-old would be comfortable with the speed of play Guardiola demands.
