Borussia Dortmund are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City wonderkid Carlos Borges, who is believed to be open to a move if it leads to first-team opportunities.
According to The Secret Scout, the Bundesliga giants are one of three clubs keeping tabs on the Portuguese youngster, though Dortmund are the likely favourites to sign Borges given the German club’s incredible track record with developing young players.
Given the huge success of Jadon Sancho at Dortmund, the Black and Yellow’s interest in Borges has led many to believe that this could be a similar deal in which City lose out on a talent who could eventually go on to become world-class and net a huge profit.
Lauded as ‘skillful and brilliant’ by Premier League News Now, Borges has been nothing short of incredible this season at youth level, with the attacker bagging a sensational 18 goals and 11 assists in all competitions, with the winger arguably the best player in the UEFA Youth League this campaign.
Indeed, interest from Dortmund makes sense given just how good Borges has been this season. Yet for City, the Manchester giants must do all they can to stop their 18-year-old talent from leaving this January, with the winger simply too good to walk from the club.
Dortmund signing Borges could be as bad as Sancho exit
Sancho’s exit from City was viewed, at the time, as a move that would come back to haunt Pep Guardiola some years down the road, and to an extent, it has, with the winger now on Manchester United’s books. Yet Borges leaving could be just as bad for the Etihad Stadium club.
After all, the Portuguese sensation has been in scintillating form this season at youth level. And with Borges more than ready for first-team football, a move to Dortmund could see the attacker become the German giants’ next great superstar, especially given how much the Bundesliga side need a new forward this January.
