Manchester City are reportedly set to meet with Julian Alvarez’s representatives to discuss a new contract, with the Argentina international only signing for the Premier League side in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail, the Etihad Stadium giants are expected to discuss extending Alvarez’s deal at City since making a £14m switch to the Manchester giants in 2022, with the attacker impressing in his first few months in England with eight goals in 23 appearances.

A member of Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup winning squad, Alvarez has been a fantastic understudy for Erling Haaland, with the South American talent quickly becoming a fan favourite with supporters and a lethal option off the bench for Pep Guardiola’s side.

And now, the Manchester side are keen to sign Alvarez down to a contract extension, with City eager to tie the forward down to a new long-term deal that will secure his future with the reigning Premier League champions for many years to come.

With Gabriel Jesus leaving City in the summer, Alvarez has established himself as the perfect replacement for the Brazilian international with Haaland leading the line for the Sky Blue this season. Yet despite the Norweigian taking all the plaudits, his Argentine teammate has played as big a role for the Premier League hopefuls.

Indeed, there’s a sense that Alvarez can become City’s next great Argentine striker and follow in the footsteps of club legend Sergio Aguero. And this latest update is a testament to how much Guardiola and the team value the forward’s current quality and exciting potential.
