Fenerbahce are reportedly interested in a sensational move to sign Manchester City defender Kyle Walker, with the Turkish giants set to make an offer for the England international.
According to A Spor, the Istanbul-based club are ready to make their move to sign Walker, who could leave City with the defender struggling for regular minutes in recent weeks due to both injury problems and the stunning emergence of Rico Lewis.
As per the report, Fenerbahce are ready to offer as much as €7m (£6.15m) to lure Walker to Turkey, who City could be open to selling given the fullback’s recent run of form and that the right-back’s contract with the club is due to expire in 2024.
Signed for a reported £53m in 2017, Walker has been a staple for Pep Guardiola’s side in the last six seasons with City, with the defender winning four Premier League titles, four League Cups and making it to the 2020 UEFA Champions League final, with the defender also enjoying immense success with England.
However, with Walker enduring an injury-ridden year and Lewis establishing himself as the next big thing to come out of City’s academy, the former Tottenham defender moving on from the Etihad Stadium isn’t too unrealistic an idea, with Fenerbahce now interested in signing the fullback.
Indeed, the Turkish side are no strangers to making huge moves in the transfer market, with Mesut Ozil Fener’s most recent big-name signing. Yet with Walker, the Super Lig side could struggle massively to bring the England international to Istanbul.
Walker would be crazy to sign for Fenerbahce
Despite injury problems, Walker is still regarded by many as one of, if not the, best right-backs in world football, with the defender key to City’s and England’s incredible success in recent years, which is why a move to Fenerbahce sounds ludicrous, to say the least.
Even at the age of 32, Walker swapping the Premier League champions for Turkey feels like an unlikely transfer, with the fullback more than good enough to compete at the highest level in Europe and to compete for the biggest prizes the game has to offer.
