Teenager Morgan Rogers may have already played his final game for Manchester City after joining Championship promotion-hopefuls Bournemouth on loan.
That’s according to the Daily Mail, who note the Cherries’ loan features an option to buy Rogers next summer. And the clause will become an obligation if Scott Parker’s side secure a Premier League return at the second attempt.
Bournemouth failed to obtain an immediate top-flight return with Norwich and Watford last season. While the Canaries and Hornets took the top two spots, the Cherries finished sixth under Jonathan Woodgate, before losing to Brentford in the play-off semi-finals.

Parker has since loaned Manchester City prospect Rogers to replace what Bournemouth lost after selling Arnaut Danjuma to Villarreal. No Cherries player scored more than the Dutchman’s 15 in 34 regular-season outings last season. Only fellow 15-goal star Dominic Solanke also bettered the Nigeria-born 24-year-old’s seven assists, with 11 over 40 games.
Rogers spent last term with Lincoln City and cut his teeth with six goals and four assists in 28 appearances. His efforts helped the Imps reach the League One play-off final in May, but lost the Wembley showdown to Blackpool.
Bournemouth will hope Rogers helps them go one better after joining from Manchester City, as they seek Premier League promotion. Securing top-flight football would also turn their option to purchase him into an obligation worth £9m, plus £3m in add-ons.
Should Parker fall short, and Bournemouth have to plan for a third-year in the second-tier, they can still purchase Rogers. The Cherries’ option will remain regardless of promotion but is worth an initial £12m, rising to £15m with additional bonuses.
Will Manchester City regret letting Bournemouth loan Rogers with buy clauses?
Manchester City could regret letting Bournemouth sign Rogers on loan with an option and obligation to buy the forward. The 19-year-old showed immense potential during his third-tier experience last season and will want to play regularly in the Championship.
Parker handed Rogers his Cherries debut in their 6-0 humbling at Norwich in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night. His outing came just a day after joining the south coast side, so was naturally lacking cohesion with his teammates.
But his Imps record offers Rogers a foundation to build from, and Nigel Appleton praised the youngster at LNER Stadium. “He’s a match-winner,” the 45-year-old tactician said, via Lincolnshire Live. “Brennan [Johnson] is the same. Brennan and Morgan will frustrate the hell out of some people, some coaches, fans, you guys [the media] – and he’ll do it to me. But I have to accept it, because he’ll win a game for me.”
