Manchester City have reportedly completed the signing of Anderlecht left-back Sergio Gomez – but the intention is to loan him out straight away and Leeds United simply have to make their move, given Victor Orta is a fan.
Sky Sports report that Manchester City are about to pay Vincent Kompany’s old side a fee of £11million to sign Gomez. It comes after a wonderful bout of form during the 2021-22 campaign in Anderlecht’s senior side.
Under Kompany, Anderlecht lured Gomez to Belgium from Dortmund last summer. Clocking up 49 appearances in all competitions in his first season, he had an astounding 22 goal involvements from left-back. He is just 21 years of age.
So, Manchester City will be signing Gomez. A decent profit for Anderlecht, who spent little over £1million to raid Dortmund for his services. But the report states City will loan him out and Leeds desperately need a left-back.

Reports earlier this summer state that Leeds held an interest in Gomez. More recently, the Mail claimed Gomez had been ‘scouted heavily’ by talent spotters from Elland Road. So clearly, he is a player on Orta’s radar.
Leeds do need a left-back, although Junior Firpo is only a few weeks away from returning to training. Stuart Dallas was seen back jogging outside at Thorp Arch. Though original prognosis was that he would be out until the new year.
A left-back is a necessity with Pascal Struijk playing out of position. But a permanent deal might not be the answer. A loan deal to solve the problem short-term, before the injured duo return to action.
Leeds have scouted Gomez, and have a good relationship with Manchester City. Largely thanks to Jack Harrison, but also through Kalvin Phillips. Surely, there is a deal to be done given it makes sense for all parties involved?
