Manchester City midfielder Rodri has told Gazzetta Dello Sport – as per the Evening Standard – that with Antonio Conte at the helm, Tottenham have a serious chance of competing with Pep Guardiola’s side for the Premier League title.
Both Manchester City and Tottenham are the only teams to remain unbeaten in the Premier League. However, they sit behind Arsenal in the Premier League table – who have won six and lost one. Spurs and City have won five, drawn two.
But City, Arsenal and Spurs are certainly the early pace-setters in the Premier League. Whether Liverpool have what it takes to rid themselves of a poor start to the season and catch up remains to be seen. Tottenham look solid, though.
Spain and Manchester City midfielder Rodri agrees. Asked about Tottenham’s title credentials, Rodri said that Spurs are able to compete with City in finishing first this season. He thinks having Conte in charge gives them a chance.

“They have put together a great squad. A manager with very clear ideas. He knows how to convey them perfectly. They know what to do, they do it with great precision. Spurs are title candidates. Conte’s career speaks for itself,” Rodri said.
Rodri: Tottenham have serious chance of competing for title
It is a big ask. Even Conte is not as full of belief in Tottenham’s chances as Rodri, stating it would take three more windows to get the Spurs squad up to a level capable of fighting the likes of Manchester City – and possibly Liverpool.
But last season, Conte did not believe his Spurs side could go as high as fourth – and they did. He is right to play down his own side’s chances. Rodri, meanwhile, is also right to point out that they are more than capable of fighting for it.
With players like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min on form, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg turning into a midfield beast and leaders like Eric Dier and Hugo Lloris, anything is capable. Spurs are of course, City’s bogey team in recent years.
