Tottenham Hotspur’s Jan Vertonghen would be a good signing for Manchester City in the summer transfer window.

Back in March 2014, Goal.com reported of Manchester City’s interest in signing Jan Vertonghen from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer of 2014.

It was reported at the time that City had identified Vertonghen as the ideal central defender to partner Vincent Kompany.

“Vertonghen is understood to have been personally recommended to City chiefs by Kompany, his Belgium international team-mate,” added the report on Goal.com.

Despite City’s (reported) interest in Vertonghen, the Belgium international remained at Spurs and is now one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League.

Tottenham are still in the race to win the Premier League title this season, and there does not appear to be any strong reason for the 30-year-old to leave White Hart Lane in the summer.

City, though, need to sign a quality centre-back in the summer transfer window, and Vertonghen would be the perfect signing.

The 30-year-old former Ajax star is one of the best centre-backs in entire Europe and is at the peak of his game.

Having played in the Premier League since 2012, Vertonghen would not need any time to settle into the English game and would enhance City’s quality at the back rightaway.

It would not be easy for City to negotiate with Tottenham over one of their most important players and the defender himself may not be willing to leave, but the Citizens should still make an offer in the summer transfer window.
