Manchester City have agreed a new deal with young striker Jordy Hiwula.
Manchester City have made a potentially significant deal, finalising a contract extension for young striker Jordy Hiwula.
The 19-year-old has an impressive record in the under-21 Premier League this season, with 12 goals in 17 matches.
Four of those came in one game at the end of last month, in a 6-0 win over Blackburn, which he followed up with two further strikes a game later in a 6-2 win over Sunderland.
With his previous deal set to expire in 2014, City have decided to act regarding Hiwula’s future, agreeing a new two-year deal.
Hiwula had missed almost the entire 2012/13 season with a serious knee injury, and so his progress this campaign has been all the more impressive.
Mark Allen, City’s head of academy, said: “Jordy’s shown great dedication to come back from his injury this season and I think that the way he has performed and the desire he has shown to get back to this level is a credit to him.
“He has shown himself to have an unbelievable attitude right throughout the whole academy system. For me, he’s a model professional because he listens and he does everything he possibly can to get the most out of himself.”
Hiwula will hope for chances in pre-season for City, currently behind an array of international talent in the queue for the first team.
City have today also tied down his teammate Shay Facey on a similar deal, the centre-back also a key part of the under-21 side’s success this campaign.
