- EXCLUSIVE from Graeme Bailey
HITC understands that Manchester City have moved to secure the future of one first team player with the future of another uncertain.
This summer promises to be a busy one at the Etihad Stadium but the goalkeeper situation is one that is causing concern at the club.
HITC have previously reported that Manchester City were shocked and surprised by Ederson’s decision to explore his options this summer with the Citizens keen on tying down the Brazilian goalkeeper to a long-term contract.
There has been interest in Ederson from the Saudi Pro League and it now appears that City are making moves in the event that the Brazilian departs the Etihad Stadium.

Contract agreed
City have reached an agreement with Stefan Ortega on a new two-year contract at the Etihad Stadium amid the uncertainty over Ederson’s future.
We had previously reported that City were keen on stepping up contract talks with the German goalkeeper in the wake of Ederson’s decision and these talks have now progressed to the point of an agreement being reached.
Ortega had been considering leaving to pursue number one opportunities but City have persuaded him to stay and handed him a big pay rise.
Ortega featured throughout City’s FA Cup campaign as they reached the final before losing 2-1 to Manchester United at Wembley Stadium.
The German goalkeeper only started nine Premier League games for the champions as well as three games in the UEFA Champions League.
Ederson’s future unclear
As mentioned, the future of Ederson has prompted City to agree terms with Ortega and it is our understanding that the club have stated to the German goalkeeper that he could be the new number one.
Ortega was signed from German side Arminia back in 2022 and he has been a more than capable back-up for the Brazilian but the time could be now for the German to become number one.
As for Ederson, HITC reported in February that the club were keen on opening contract talks with the Brazilian shot stopper to renew his terms at the Etihad Stadium, but that now seems to be on hold as the 30-year-old shot-stopper explores his options.
