Manchester City remain confident they can complete the €100 million (£86 million) signing of RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol, despite the deal going quiet over the last few days.

That’s according to German outlet Bild which says the defender is ready to make the switch to the Etihad and is set to pocket Leipzig the three-figured sum according to the report. Sky Germany back this up and say that City are really pushing to complete the signature of the Croatian defender.

The same report says Gvardiol agreed to City’s terms over four weeks ago and only the agreement between the two clubs is missing before they can close the deal.

Gvardiol would represent a superb addition to the City defence, with Pep Guardiola wanting a new defensive acquisition in the event that Aymeric Laporte or Joao Cancelo leave the Etihad this summer with the Portuguese defender being linked with Barcelona according to Fabrizio Romano.

‘Positive discussions held’

According to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna, positive contacts took place between the two clubs on Tuesday and City are confident that an agreement will be found soon for the left-footed defender.

Aouna goes on to say that the contract and agent’s commissions have all been agreed upon between City and the player’s camp with just the agreement between City and Leipzig left.

The thought of the defender lining up alongside Ruben Dias is sure to excite City fans, with his incredible range of passing and his ability to cover the channels to an exceptional level, Gvardiol will be a superb addition.

The fee, rumoured to be around £86 million according to The Telegraph, is certainly steep for a defender but with the quality he possesses and with age on his side, with the Croat being just 21 years old, this signing is sure to be another that rival fans will marvel at with jealousy.
