A trio of Sky Blues players celebrated the historic win on social media.

Manchester City sealed their passage into the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Tuesday night with a 3-1 aggregate win over Dynamo Kiev.

Both sides played out a relatively dull scoreless draw at the Etihad, meaning that the Sky Blues’ victory in Ukraine three weeks ago was enough to take them into the last eight for the very first time in their history.

Sergio Aguero and Yaya Toure both celebrated the achievement on Twitter directly afterwards, as did Eliaquim Mangala, who played 83 minutes following an injury to Vincent Kompany.

Manuel Pellegrini’s side had been eliminated by Barcelona at the last-16 stage in the last two seasons, and the Catalans – also reigning champions – might well be in the draw with them again.

Barca host Arsenal at Camp Nou tonight knowing that they are huge favourites to progress by virtue of their 2-0 first-leg lead.

Should they do just that, Man City would be England’s only representation in the last eight after Chelsea were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain last week.
