How did Manchester City’s players fare in their 3-2 loss to Liverpool today? Here are the ratings for Manuel Pellegrini’s side…
Joe Hart 6 – Was caught horrendously out of position for Sterling’s goal, but redeemed himself with a stunning save from Steven Gerrard’s header as his defence were all at sea.
Pablo Zabaleta 7 – The tireless Argentine was one of City’s main attacking outlets down the right hand side, working hard defensively too as he shackled Luis Suarez well.
Vincent Kompany 6 – Decided to play despite injury concerns, but got beat badly by Martin Skrtel for the second goal before a terrible clearance led to Liverpool’s winner.
Martin Demichelis 6 – A fairly solid display from Demichelis but had some trouble with the electric movement of Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Raheem Sterling.
Gael Clichy 6 – Was really run ragged by Sterling in the first half, but improved in the second and tried to get forward more.
Yaya Toure 5 – Only lasted 19 minutes as Toure suffered a knee injury following a wayward long range shot.
Fernandinho 7 – Energetic and combative, Fernandinho took over the mantle as City’s main midfielder following Toure’s injury in another impressive display.
Jesus Navas 6 – Failed to get into the game up against John Flanagan, often failing to beat his man despite his pace and was unsurprisingly substituted in the second half.
Samir Nasri 7 – By no means his best display, but Nasri showed some bright moments and linked up well with David Silva around the edge of the box.
David Silva 9 – Outstanding yet again, Silva was City’s best attacking player. With creativity and a number of attempts on goal, it was no surprise that the Spaniard was instrumental in both goals.
Edin Dzeko 7 – Led the line well on his own without truly troubling Liverpool, as things never seemed to quite fall for him in front of goal.
Subs:
Javi Garcia 6 – booked just seconds into his introduction, Garcia didn’t offer nearly as much as Toure would but was effective in front of the back four.
James Milner 7 – impressed when he came on with his work rate and quality into the box, and was a large reason for City getting back into the game.
Sergio Aguero 6 – touched the ball just five times in an uninspiring cameo.
