Manchester City are expected to be in the market for a new left back this summer, but a top target is now off the radar.
Benjamin Mendy is a shadow of his former self, whilst Oleksandr Zinchenko isn’t exactly the calibre of starter City are seeking.
That means a new left back must be a priority, and the Daily Mail reported in December that Everton’s Lucas Digne was on the radar.
It’s not hard to see why Pep Guardiola and co would want Digne; he’s one of the Premier League’s most creative full backs, contributing great attacking ability for Everton.
Signed for £18million from Barcelona in 2018, Digne could have been a fine addition for City, but today’s news is a blow for them.
Everton have confirmed that Digne has signed a new long-term contract until the summer of 2025, seeming ruling out a move away any time soon.

The 27-year-old has now committed his future to Everton until he turns 31, meaning a big move to an established Champions League side may no longer be in his plans.
After mixed spells with Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona in the past, maybe Digne feels it’s now better to be settled and important at Everton – and leaves City to go back to the drawing board.
