Manchester City are now interested in signing West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd at the end of the season.

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd is now wanted by Manchester City as they already look towards 2024.

That is according to The Sun, who claim that City are monitoring Aguerd ahead of a potential transfer.

It’s stated that City admire Aguerd but a new centre back isn’t an absolutely pressing need for them right now.

Pep Guardiola may well make his move for Aguerd if anything changes in his back line, keeping the Moroccan in mind.

Manchester City seem well-stocked despite Nayef Aguerd interest

City are pretty pro-active and will always have targets in mind in case they need to move for a new signing.

A new defender would be a surprise though given that City already appear to be pretty well-stocked at the back.

Josko Gvardiol just arrived in a huge deal from RB Leipzig, joining the likes of Nathan Ake, Ruben Dias, Manuel Akanji and John Stones as centre back options.

One of Aguerd’s big selling points is that he is a natural left-footer, but so are Gvardiol and Ake.

Unless Ake is planning to move on in the near future, we would be stunned to see City invest in Aguerd in 2024.

West Ham coup highlighted by Manchester City interest

It’s only just over a year since Aguerd joined West Ham from Rennes in a deal worth around £30million.

The Moroccan impressed in his debut campaign for West Ham and even played an important role for his country at the World Cup.

It all could have been so different for Aguerd though as Newcastle United allegedly launched a late move to sign him.

The Daily Star noted last summer that Newcastle made a late move to hijack Aguerd’s move to West Ham and that the defender was torn over his choice.

90Min have added that Newcastle made two approaches to sign Aguerd but he ended up picking West Ham.

West Ham will feel like they pulled off a real coup by signing Aguerd in 2022, and even more so now clubs like City are interested in him.
