Manchester City are reportedly preparing to offer Rico Lewis a new contract, with the teenage defender impressing for the senior squad having broken into Pep Guardiola’s team this season.
According to the Daily Mail, the Premier League champions are already lining up a new deal for the 18-year-old right-back, who has started every game for City since the return of English football as Kyle Walker continues to recover from injury.
As per OptaJoe. Lewis became the youngest English player to start a Premier League game for City since Micah Richards, with the defender also the youngest player to ever score for City in the UEFA Champions League after finding the back of the net against Sevilla in November.
With Lewis currently earning just £5,000-a-week, a new contract is more than deserved for the English youth international, with the defender making the leap from academy football to the first-team in a seamless fashion.
Indeed, Lewis’ rise will hopefully emulate that of Phil Foden’s as the defender looks to become a regular for City in the coming weeks, with Guardiola’s use of academy players no doubt impressing supporters with the likes of Cole Palmer also playing a good amount of football this season.
