There are some individuals that have been immortalised in the history of their club. Paul Dickov is one. And Pep Guardiola could well be another.
If there any lingering doubts about Pep Guardiola’s managerial credentials, they have been emphatically crushed by an avalanche of attacking brilliance at the start of the new season.
With nine wins out of a possible nine so far in all competitions, Pep’s City have pummelled Borussia Monchengladbach, smashed Stoke and hammered West Ham. Oh, and that’s without mentioning their supreme performance in the Manchester derby.
And, if City are heralding a new era of dominance in English football, there’s one man in particular who can appreciate it more than most.
There was a time when City’s forward line was headlined by a tenacious, 5ft 6in Scotsman rather than a £38 million Argentine. Yet, Paul Dickov is, and will always be, as much a legend on the blue half as Manchester as Sergio Aguero. Without his goal in the dying seconds of the 1998-99 Division Two play-off final, United’s ‘noisy neighbours’ may have remained stuck in the shadows for all eternity.
Therefore, Dickov’s opinion is worth something to each and every fan of the blue persuasion.
Certainly more than the views of Dimitri Seluk anyway. Yaya Toure’s outspoken, obnoxious agent launched yet another tirade against Guardiola on Friday evening, telling the BBC World Service that “he thinks only about himself. He thinks he is already God,” as reported by the Daily Mail.
Cue Paul Dickov, then, to produce a line to warm the hearts of every City fan across the land.
