Manchester City go into tomorrow’s Capital One Cup semi-final second leg knowing the job is only half done. Or at least that is the message from the camp.
In Sky Sports’ preview of the match, City defender Pablo Zabaleta said, “It doesn’t matter about the first leg.
“We have to go into that game thinking it’s a new game, even though we have six goals.
“We need to try and win it, like we are doing in other games at the moment. We are winning games and working hard.”
They certainly are, and it is that work ethic that is perhaps unnoticed amidst the goal-blitz but is vital in the Blues’ charge on all fronts.
It is not easy to score the amount of goals they have, or to put so much pressure on the opposition. Yes, they have very talented players, but those players are even better because of the work they put into each and every match; and for that, huge praise must go to Manuel Pellegrini.
Can they win the quadruple? Probably not. But Sky Bet have given odds of 80/1 that the Blues scoop all four trophies this season; although they may have to do it without Joleon Lescott who, according to reports in Turkey, wishes to join Besiktas before the close of the January transfer window.
The Express has followed up on those reports, which claim the England defender will ask his agent to meet with Pellegrini in an attempt to push through a deal before next Friday.
