The Southampton left-back has been linked with a move to the Premier League leaders.
Southampton have already lost one of their star players, with Virgil Van Dijk securing a move to Liverpool, and there is speculation that another high quality defender could leave St Mary’s in January.
Ryan Bertrand has performed consistently this campaign and is the subject of interest from Manchester City, as reported by the Daily Mail.
It is clear to see why City are tracking Bertrand, with the 28-year-old possessing a considerable amount of Premier League and international experience.
City would certainly benefit from bringing in another left-back in January, with Benjamin Mendy still sidelined with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament.
Fabian Delph has filled in admirably at left-back for the Premier League leaders and Danilo is also capable of playing there, but Bertrand would represent a good option as City look to continue to thrive in the second half of the season.
It is, however, questionable whether the move would be beneficial for Bertrand in the long term as if he did join City then he would certainly face a considerable battle from Mendy for his place in the team next season, whereas if he was to remain at Southampton then he would be guaranteed regular playing time.
