Manchester City have identified Brendan Rodgers as the ‘perfect successor’ to Pep Guardiola, according to Eurosport.

What’s the story?

Eurosport are reporting this morning that City rate former Liverpool manager Rodgers highly.

The defending Premier League champions believe that the former Celtic boss is the ‘perfect successor to Pep Guardiola’.

City have reportedly made that clear to Rodgers, and the push started a year ago.

Manchester United reportedly have their eye on the former Celtic boss as well.

What should Brendan Rodgers do?

Guardiola seems happy at City and is doing extremely well.

The former Barcelona boss has a contract at the Citizens until the summer of 2023.

Now, we do not know for sure if Guardiola will leave then.

The former Bayern Munich boss could well decide to extend it.

Can Rodgers wait?

Should he?

What we do not find surprising at all is Rodgers being rated so highly at City.

The 48-year-old almost led Liverpool to the Premier League title once and was hugely successful at Celtic.

Rodgers is doing extremely well at Leicester at the moment, and his footballing philosophy does suit City.

The former Liverpool boss has won a total of nine major trophies in his managerial career so far.
