Manchester City will surely be in the market for a new striker at the end of the season, but other areas will be targeted for strengthening.

A new holding midfielder may be needed given that Fernandinho is out of contract and could leave on a free transfer.

This week, the Daily Mail reported that City are already eyeing up a summer deal for Sassuolo ace Manuel Locatelli, which would cost around £30million.

Juventus and Locatelli’s former club AC Milan are also thought to be interested, meaning there is a real battle on for his signature.

The 23-year-old was once touted as Andrea Pirlo’s heir at Milan, but ended up leading for Sassuolo in 2018, initially on loan before turning the deal permanent a year later.

He is now a key part of Roberto De Zerbi’s exciting Sassuolo side, serving as the chief playmaker in the side – and that could make him competition for Rodri at City.

City fans have been reacting to the rumours, suggesting that Locatelli is a ‘great player’ and better than fellow City target Denis Zakaria.

Others called him a ‘baller’ and a ‘bargain’ at £30million, and an ideal player to fit into Pep Guardiola’s side if City don’t re-sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa.
